Nigerian and Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen clinched the prestigious 2023 African Golden Ball at the CAF Awards in Marrakech, Morocco, succeeding Sadio Mané.

It was a straight battle between him, Morocco’s full-back Achraf Hakimi, and Egypt’s striker Mohammed Salah, and he emerged as the winner of the 2023 CAF Player of the Year award.

Victor Osimhen is the first Nigerian to be crowned CAF Player of the Year since Nwankwo Kanu won it in 1999.

Osimhen’s phenomenal journey from Lagos to Napoli, via Wolfsburg, Charleroi, LOSC Lille, and Italy, climaxed in an outstanding season where he netted 26 goals and provided 4 assists in 32 games.

Victor Osimhen secures Napoli’s Serie A triumph after 33 years since the legendary Argentine player Diego Maradona led them to win it in 1989/90.

He was the top scorer in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with 10 goals.He became the first African to be Serie A’s top goal scorer last season.
